The location of your hotel in Istanbul is really important.
Avoid staying in hotels that aren’t in the city centre because
public transport isn’t easy to use, and there’s always a lot
of traffic in Istanbul. The districts in Istanbul that we’d
recommend are:
Harbiye, Taksim, Beyoglu, or Galata - These are good
neighborhoods if you want to be close to night-life, shopping,
cinemas, busy restaurants, cafes and bars; mostly concentrated
along the pedestrianized Istiklal Avenue .
Sirkeci, Sultanahmet, Beyazit - This area is best if you
want to be close to the historical sites such as Hagia
Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque and Grand Bazaar. There
are also many cafe and restaurants, carpet, jewelry and
souvenir shops in the vicinity. Most hotels around here are
boutique hotels. It’s not far from Taksim (roughly 4-5 km).
Laleli, Aksaray - These are central neighborhoods and the
hotels can be cheaper, but they’re generally of lower quality
and the area isn’t as nice. (5-6 km from Taksim Square, 2-3 km
from Sultanahmet Square)
